Blighia sapida a Tropical Fruit With Antimicrobial Properties

Blighia sapida, a plant native to West Africa, has shown excellent antimicrobial activity, comparable to standard antibiotics like streptomycin. Its extracts have shown antidiarrheal, anticancer, hypoglycemic, and antioxidant properties. B. sapida has been used in traditional medicine for treating various ailments, including oedema, dysentery, diarrhea, fever, ulcers, yaws, epilepsy, and yellow fever. The plant’s stem bark and leaf extracts compare favorably with streptomycin, suggesting potential use in drug formulation.
